What are Pack Units & EQ Units?

Understand the key differences between these two unit types found within GreenEdge.

Prior to 2022, BDSA equivalized sales to the count of grams sold, or EQ Units. In January 2022, we enhanced the way we track sales to also report the count of packaged units sold (Pack Units), providing additional granularity across categories.

"EQ" stands for "equivalized quantity" and is used to normalize product sales to a consistent unit of measure, allowing for more comparable insights across product sizes. Instead of treating all products equally by unit count, EQ adjusts for differences in size or potency. For example, rather than counting both a 1g and a 2g vape as one unit each, they are normalized based on weight: the 1g vape counts as 1 EQ unit, and the 2g vape as 2 EQ units. Because standard product sizes vary across categories, different equivalization methods are applied.

By tracking both Pack Units and EQ Units, you can see the difference in pricing and sales between different package sizes—for example, sales of 0.5g vapes versus 1g vapes, or eighths versus quarters.

* Pre-rolls may be sold as singles or in multi-packs. EQ is calculated based on the total grams in a package. For example, a 5-pack of 0.5g pre-rolls (totaling 2.5g) would count as 2.5 EQ units.

** Edibles, Topicals, and Sublinguals are not equivalized by any other cannabinoid content.
