What are generics vs. non-generics in GreenEdge®?

GreenEdge® contains both entries and filters that distinguish between generic/non-generic brands and products.

Non-generic designates sales attributed to specific brands and products.

Generic brands are labeled as to represent a bucket of brands for which we cannot expose the brand for the sales we see from our retail partners, however we want to ensure we have a place to recognize the revenue to the market and category for which they apply. Generics encompass several common situations:
  • The specific brand/product cannot be determined from a retailer/dispensary POS feed. If we can identify the product classification but cannot distinguish the brand/vendor/item, the product sales will be attributed to, and reported under, a generic entry for the product category.
  • White-labeled products or products purchased from a processor that do not carry a brand label are coded to a generic brand specific to the category. For example, a shatter or wax product sold without any specific brand affiliation is considered generic, the default generic brand would be reported as “CONCENTRATE.”

When viewing brand lists, if you see a brand labeled as a product category such as CONCENTRATES, FLOWER, or EDIBLES, this line represents the aggregate of all of the generic products assigned to that category.

  • Recommendation: When conducting category-level analysis, "Include All" for the Generic Brand filter to ensure you are representing the full volume of sales. When analyzing for top-selling brands and products, select Non-Generic Vendors only from the filter options.
